There is two parts to poetry; seen and unseen. The seen poetry is the ones you have studied. The question asked is the same, but the themes change. You should make sure you are covered for a range of different themes, not just one theme.
SAMPLE QUESTION:
A
(i) Ainmnigh dán Gaeilge (a ndearna tú staidéar air le linn do chúrsa) a bhfuil an cineál céanna téama i gceist ann is atá i do rogha ceann amháin den dá dhán i gCeist 1 thuas.
Ní mór teideal an dáin sin, mar aon le hainm an fhile a chum, a scríobh síos go soiléir.
(ii) Tabhair cuntas gairid ar a bhfuil faoin gcineál sin téama sa dán atá ainmnithe agat agus
ar an gcaoi a gcuireann an file os ár gcomhair é.
nó
Déan comparáid ghairid idir a bhfuil faoin téama úd sa dán atá roghnaithe agat as Ceist 1 agusa bhfuil faoin téama céanna sa dán atá ainmnithe agat.
B
(i) Ainmnigh dán Gaeilge (a ndearna tú staidéar air le linn do chúrsa) a bhfuil do rogha ceann amháin de na mothúcháin seo thíos i gceist ann.
Ní mór teideal an dáin, mar aon le hainm an fhile a chum, a scríobh síos go soiléir.
(a) theama 1 (b) theama 2 (c) theama 3 (d) theama 4 (e) theama 5 (f) theama 6
(ii) Tabhair cuntas gairid ar a bhfuil sa dán sin faoin mothúchán atá roghnaithe agat agus
ar an gcaoi a gcuireann an file an mothúchán sin os ár gcomhair.
Basically in A (i), this is asking you to name an Irish poem (which you have studied during your 3 year course) involving the same theme in one of the two poems in the unseen poetry question.
In A (ii), You are asked to describe how the poet gets across this theme in the poem.
or
Compare the poem you have studied with the unseen poem.
In B (i), You are asked to name an Irish poem (which you have studied during your 3 year course) that has one of the themes that are given. If you keep scrolling down you will see a list of popular themes.
In B (ii), You have to describe how the theme is present in the poem.
In A or B you must make sure that the title of the poem and poet are written clearly and spelled properly. This alone gets you 3/15 marks in this section which is 20% of the questions marks.
