When using possesive adjetives (i.e adíocht shealbhach) in a sentense you must follow the following rules:
1) When the word begins with a consonant for mine, yours, his & hers
mo + h e.g: Tá mo mhala anseo.
- My bag is here.
do + h e.g: Tá do chat ansin.
- Your cat is there.
a + h e.g: Tá sé a chathaoir.
- It is his chair.
a + e.g: Tá a cara Kate. (her (a) takes no h)
- Her friend is Kate.
2) When the word begins with a consonant for ours, yours & theirs
These possesive adjetives add an urú to the next word. The letters are as follows:
mb, gc, nd, bhf, ng, bp, dt
i.e, when a word begins with a b and you must use the possesive adjetive ár (our) you put the letter m in front of it.
ár + urú e.g: Tá ár gcat sa cistin.
- Our cat is in the kitchen.
bhúr + urú e.g: Tá bhúr bhfuinneog buí.
- Your window is yellow.
a + urú e.g: Tá a gcathair briste.
- Their chair is broken.
3) When the word begins with a vowel
m'uncail (you remove the o from mo)
d'aintin (you remove the o from do)
a úll (a, his, adds or removes no letters)
a hathair (a h is put before the vowel at the start of the word)
ár n'uncail (a n' is put the before the vowel)
bhúr n'uncail (a n' is put before the vowel, the same as ár)
a n'uncail (again, a n' is put before the vowel)
