Thinking of a plot can be hard when put on the spot so it is a good idea to practice writing stories & being creative with the story line.
If you are stuck, here are some titles, characters, setttings & first lines that might get your story moving.
Always remember, the examiner will have to correct hundreds of stories so make your one imaginative & new.
In the exam you will be given titles, from which you pick one, but when practicing it is sometimes better to choose the title last because it gives you more freedom when writing the story.

TitlesYou may want to use one of the titles below or one of the titles may give you an idea of a story to write. 1) A Day that Changed Me 2) Pirated Thoughts 3) My Life in Winter 4) The Twisting Road 5) Last Summer 6) The Day I Met You 7) The Dragon's Protector 8) House No. 14 9) My Friend, Sarah 10) The King's Eyes 11) Lonely Boy 12) The Dark Forest 13) Driving with Allison 14) Wrinkled Hands 15) The Cracked Mirror 16) My 8th Girlfriend 17) They Should Have Listened 18) A Bad Move 19) School No. 5 20) My New Best Friend | CharactersObviously the reader cannot see the characters so it is up to you to paint a picture of them in their mind. Use adjectives to add detail. Below are some examples. 1) Michael was a skinny, tall man who worked in the shop by my house. He had a pale, round face with narrow, muddy brown eyes. In my 17 years of living in Brownfield I only heard him speak twice. He usually pointed at the price or expected me to know it. He was, as my mother would say, not the sharpest knife in the drawer. 2) Allison was the most beautiful girl I knew. She had a heart shaped face with mocha coloured skin. Her dark brown eyes sparkled when she smiled & when she smiled, her whole face lit up. Her hair was the colour of dark chocolate & the curls reached her shoulders. She was my description of perfect. Try to describe their height, body size, hair colour & type, face shape, eye shape & colour, facial hair, personality/their traits & clothes. |
